March TBR: The Slightly Strange, Totally Addictive Edition

March always feels like one of those in-between months — not quite winter, not quite spring — and somehow that perfectly matches this month’s reading list. We’re gravitating toward stories that feel a little magical, a little spooky, and completely immersive. Think witches and exorcisms, post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, fairytale retellings, theatrical 1940s glamour, and multigenerational family secrets. Basically, a little bit of everything we love.
Some of these books have been patiently waiting on our shelves, while others practically jumped into our hands at the bookstore. There’s something about the timing of a book — when it just feels right for the season — and that’s exactly how this list came together.
This month’s TBR is a mix of buzzy backlist titles we’ve been meaning to read, shiny new releases we couldn’t resist, and a few impulse picks that just called our names. All of them reflect where our reading hearts are right now: curious, nostalgic, a little dark, and very ready for escape.

Why it’s on my TBR:
This is an ARC that I selected for this month, and if you’ve picked up anything about me by now, you know I cannot resist books about witches or books about books. So when this one popped up, it was an instant grab for me. The summary alone gives me major The Astral Library vibes (see my review here), and I have a feeling this is going to be exactly my kind of magical read.

Why it’s on my TBR:
I picked this one up because of how different it feels from most historical fiction set in the 1940s. WWII stories are everywhere, but we don’t always get to see what life looked like outside of the war narrative itself. I’m excited to explore a side of that era that feels fresh and a little unexpected — especially set against the backdrop of the theater world.

This one has been on my radar for a while now. I know, I know — I’m a little late to the party. But I absolutely love a good multigenerational story, and this one has been praised over and over again for exactly that. When I spotted it at our local thrift store, I knew it was finally time to bring it home. There’s something about finding a long-anticipated read secondhand that makes it feel meant to be.

Ouija board slumber party gone wrong? Say less. This one immediately caught my attention with its 80s horror vibes, and I’ve heard it balances creepy with a surprising amount of heart. It’s giving me major Stranger Things energy, and I’m fully here for it. I’m hoping for nostalgia, chills, and maybe just a little chaos.

This was in my monthly Aardvark book box, and the cover and description instantly had me intrigued. Sometimes you just know when a book is going to be your vibe, and this one gave me that feeling right away. I’m excited to go in with fresh expectations and see what unfolds.

After reading I Who Have Never Known Men (see my review here), I have been absolutely entranced with dystopian reads. There’s just something about that eerie, end-of-the-world atmosphere that I can’t shake. When I saw that this one is set in a post-world-end Las Vegas, paired with that bold cover? Automatic yes. I’m ready for something strange and immersive.

After reading The Book of Lost Names, there is absolutely no doubt why I love Kristin Harmel. Her writing just pulls me in every single time. Of course I had to get my hands on her newest release — and did I mention it’s sitting at a 4.3-star rating on Goodreads? I have high hopes for this one.

Wrapping Up Our March TBR
March always feels a little unpredictable. Busy weeks. Shifting seasons. And for us, spring break sprinkled in somewhere along the way.
We’re hoping that break brings extra reading time. Even if it’s just a few quiet chapters while everyone else is sleeping. Or an audiobook playing during a road trip.
