If you want a book that feels emotional but not exhausting, The Bright Years is a great place to start. This was my first 5 Star read of 2026!
This is the kind of story that pulls you in quietly and then suddenly you’re fifty pages deep without realizing it. It’s reflective, human, and deeply readable … ideal for readers who want something meaningful without feeling heavy.
Why it works for a reading slump:
- Multiple POV’s, so you’re in deep before you know it.
- Short chapters
- Strong emotional pull

This one is for readers who need momentum now. I read this towards the end of 2025, and it was a high 4 star read for me!
Best Offer Wins moves fast, keeps things practical and engaging, and is incredibly bingeable. Is the main character unhinged? Or is she just trying to find THE perfect house? Dig in and let me know 😉
Why it works for a reading slump:
- Easy to pick up and read in short bursts
- Unpredictable in a non-stressy kind of way.
- Highly engaging from page one
So Far Gone—Virginia Evans

Formats: Kindle | Paperback | Audiobook
This is the book you reach for when your attention span is questionable at best. This was a fall 2025 read for me, and easily a 4 star.
So Far Gone doesn’t waste time. The pacing is sharp, the stakes are clear, and every chapter pushes the story forward. If you’ve been starting books and abandoning them, this one might finally stick. We follow a dad of a grown daughter as he fights to get her back. Physically and emotionally. It was easy to put myself in the shoes of all of the characters.
Why it works for a reading slump:
- Easy to read “just one more chapter”
- Fast-moving plot
- Clear tension from early on
The Correspondent—Virginia Evans

Formats: Kindle | Hardback | Audiobook
If you love books told in a slightly different format, The Correspondent is a slump-slayer. This was another 2026 5 star for me!
This story follows Sybil, and elderly lady, and it unfolds through letters, emails, and exchanges. This makes it incredibly easy to keep turning pages! Some of the letters and exchanges aren’t even a full page long. It feels intimate, personal, and quietly addictive. I am confident that I could have easily finished this book in one setting if I didn’t need to sleep 😉
Why it works for a reading slump:
- Emotional payoff without being overwhelming.
- Unique structure keeps things fresh
- Short, digestible sections

The Names—Florence Knapp

IThe Names is perfect if you want something thoughtful but still quick. This one comes in a little over 300 pages, but you take on three different POV’s, which keeps it moving. Before you start, please research trigger warnings. There are a couple of sensitive issues here. Despite the sensitive topics, this was a 5 star read for me…and the hardcover is only $15 on Amazon right now!
It’s sharp, compelling, and emotionally engaging without requiring a huge time commitment. This is the kind of book you finish and immediately feel proud of yourself for finishing!
