A Cozy December TBR: Heartwarming Reads, Fireside Favorites & More

December is finally here, bringing twinkling lights and cozy afternoons wrapped in blankets. It’s the season of slow, quiet moments by the fireplace with a warm cup of cocoa in hand. Something about this time of year naturally encourages life to slow down. As busy moms, we welcome that shift more than ever. A little more calm usually means a little more reading time, and we’re not complaining.

Every month, we put together a TBR list. It’s become a small ritual for us — something to look forward to and something that helps us start each month with intention. We never treat it like a strict checklist (we’re definitely mood readers). Choosing our “hopefuls” is half the fun. And as two sisters with very different reading tastes, it’s always exciting to see where our paths overlap… and where they absolutely don’t.

How We Choose Our Monthly Reads

At the start of each month, we gather a small stack of books that feel right for the season’s mood. We look for stories with the atmosphere, themes, or energy we’re drawn to as the month unfolds. Some picks come from your recommendations. Others are new releases or upcoming titles we’ve been lucky enough to receive early. A few come from those patient books that have been waiting on our shelves for far too long.

We also like to keep a bit of variety in the mix. We include a comfort read, something new-to-us, and a book that nudges us outside our usual choices. And of course, we leave room for spontaneity. Library holds arrive when they want, and we’re not immune to a book jumping into our hands at the bookstore.

Our TBR isn’t meant to be perfect or rigid. It’s simply a cozy, thoughtful starting point. From there, we let the month (and our reading moods) guide us.
