Why I Picked Up Part of Your World

Part of Your World had been lingering on my radar for a while, yet somehow it never quite made it onto my TBR. I even had a copy in my cart during some last-minute Christmas shopping at TJ Maxx—along with another Abby Jimenez book—before changing my mind and putting them back at checkout. Regrets were definitely had.

A few days later, during an unexpected five-hour drive to pick up a hog waterer, as all normal people do (lol), I checked Libby on a whim to see if the audiobook was available. It was, and I immediately pressed play. That long drive passed quickly, and by the time I arrived home, I wasn’t ready to stop listening. Once I was home and no longer driving, I switched over to the Kindle edition to finish the book, which is usually my preferred format when I can sit down and read.

What Worked So Well

Story & Pacing

The story unfolds at a steady, natural pace that never feels rushed or drawn out. Emotional moments are given time to breathe, while lighter scenes keep things moving and balanced. The narrative shifts back and forth between the main characters throughout the chapters, which I really enjoyed. It adds depth to the story and lets you see how each character processes the same moments in very different ways.

Thoughtful Handling of Heavy Themes

Abby Jimenez doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, particularly domestic abuse, but she approaches them with care and intention. These moments are written with sensitivity, making their impact feel genuine without feeling brushed over or becoming overwhelming.

Characters & Connection

There were moments in this book that had me laughing out loud during my drive (and obviously not during the heavier scenes). The emotional balance is spot-on, and that’s largely due to how real the characters feel.

Alexis is a wonderfully layered character. She’s accomplished and capable, yet clearly weighed down by expectations that were never truly her own. Watching her slowly recognize her worth and begin to question the life she’s been pushed into was both frustrating and rewarding in the best way.

Daniel is kindness in human form. He’s steady, thoughtful, and genuinely good to his core. He helps Alexis grow without ever trying to control or change her. The contrast between their worlds—and how difficult it is for them to truly mesh—was heartbreaking at times, especially because Daniel so much deserves a world that meets him with the same kindness he gives.

A Small Town With a Pull of Its Own

The town itself feels like a character in the story. There’s an almost intangible pull to it, as if it’s quietly, or maybe not so quietly, rooting for Alexis and Daniel the entire time. The close-knit nature of the community and how everyone shows up for one another adds so much warmth and charm to the story, making it easy to understand why it’s so hard to leave.

What Could Have Been Better

Any small issues I had were format-related rather than story-related, and I’ve shared those thoughts in the format notes below.

Writing Style & Overall Feel

Abby Jimenez’s writing is warm, engaging, and emotionally grounded. She blends humor and heartbreak in a way that feels natural and authentic, creating a story that’s both comforting and deeply emotional. Even in the heavier moments, there’s a sense of hope woven throughout.

Format Notes 

I started Part of Your World as an audiobook and finished it as an ebook, and overall I enjoyed both formats.

The audiobook narrators were very good, and the sound quality was excellent. Both brought emotion and personality to their performances and were easy to listen to for long stretches. My only real issue was when the male narrator voiced the female character during his chapters—it pulled me out of the story a bit and just didn’t work for me personally. Aside from that, the audiobook experience was solid.

The Kindle edition was perfect. The formatting was clean and easy to read, and it made it effortless to fully sink into the story. When I’m not driving, I almost always prefer reading to listening, and this book was a great example of why.

This is one of those books where it’s hard to find faults. The story unfolded smoothly, the characters felt genuine, and I was emotionally along for the ride from start to finish. The hardest part was closing the book and realizing it was over—but luckily for me, and you, there are already a couple of other books in the series waiting to be picked up.
